Fire Life by John Curtis Crawford
In the deep, lingering glow of a Midsummer sunset, a Fairy sits contentedly on one of the many perches of this softly shimmering house, admiring her handiwork. It is a challenge, even for Fairies, to bring the center of the fire from the heart of the Earth into the world above, but tonight she's done a magnificent job. Her house sits on the rim of the volcano where she has direct access to the birth of new earth as it emerges from the depths. She has been taught that life first came, not from water, but from fire - from the microscopic dust of exploding stars, journeying through bitter cold of empty space, to warm itself again in the bubbling cauldron of a young planet. So she paints sunsets for us, to remind us of our birth in fire.
