Spring's Winter Home by John Curtis Crawford
In an old growth pine forest high up the side of a volcanic mountain, bird song and squirrel rustlings are muffled by the deep layers of forest duff. Time moves differently here, measured by spring rains, summer sun, autumn winds, and winter snows. Creatures, furred and winged, come and go, court and slumber, tended by spirited Fairies who dart and weave through the forest like a swarm of hummingbirds around new blossoms. This is the first place touched by hints of new green, the magical grove where Spring slips out the door of its Winter home, tiptoes among the trees, then leaps out and shouts "surprise!" The Fairies seem to know the precise moment of Spring's return and come from all corners of the realm to play music, tell tales, and sing the welcoming songs as tiny new leaves dream toward the sun.
