Fairy Upper, Ogre Under

Wood: Alder or Douglas Fir
Each day, just before dawn, smoke begins to rise from the chimney in short (often colorful) puffs.. A low-pitched hummmmm, almost like a catís purr, vibrates through the ground from the ancient stump. The tree it once supported succumbed to age many seasons ago, causing the roots to send up saplings which now lean against what remains. As the sky lightens and the colors of dawn touch the air, the hum stops and the front door opens to send the stumpís occupant to greet the sun. This ritual is repeated most mornings except when torrential downpours keep any self-respecting Fairy Sasquatch tucked comfortably in front of the fire with a honey-laden cup of tea.
LaFayette, Fairy protector and gardener extraordinaire, is an elder of the Fairy Sasquatch Clan. Looking like a cross between a Wookie and an orangutan, he is often mistaken for an Ogre, a misconception he doesnít mind, since it scares unwanted elements away. His furry physique, sweet disposition, and love of gardening make him a perfect companion and protector for the Garden Fairy family that lives upstairs. He makes sure no creatures with black thumbs settle into the neighborhood and the Fairies keep his fur fluffy and give him many occasions to laugh. Which, next to gardening, is his favorite activity.
