If you are on a quest to find Faerie, knowing where to look helps. Many mortals imagine that perfectly manicured flower gardens or well-mulched wooded paths would please the Fae – and they do – but the wee folk are nervous around mortals so tend to avoid places easily accessed by humans. So we were not entirely surprised when, on a berry picking expedition late last summer we came upon an entire Fairy village in one of the most inhospitable-to-humans environments on the planet: a blackberry thicket.
A roof was the first sign we spotted, tucked under a bramble with succulent berries dangling just above. That find caused us to try for a closer look which, of course, resulted in numerous, painful scratches from the protective vines. Having gotten the point, we simply sat down at the edge of the bramble patch, sang a berry picking song, and waited. It didn’t take long. Tiny tinkling of bells just at the edge of our hearing, slight movements of leaves, shimmering lights between branches. Soon, when we soft-focused our eyes, teeny faces peered from blackberry vines. Once convinced we meant them no harm and, in fact, had tales and songs to offer, the Fair Folk allowed the brambles to open a path so we could glimpse their village. The tiniest Fairy Houses we had ever seen nestled comfortably under vines in a small clearing at the center of the thicket. It seemed as though the blackberry vines had mysteriously rearranged themselves to make an opening that could accommodate the Fae residents and their homes. There were, of course, no thorns on the vines surrounding the houses. Clever Fairies! After some negotiations, which included a promise to bring chocolate on the full moon, the Fairies gave us permission to reproduce their tiny houses. Fairies who prefer less conspicuous residences than the ones we usually create will love them, especially if they’re located in a slightly hidden corner of the house – or even tucked under a bramble bush!
Bramble Village Houses come with a deed and the Bramble Village story, above. In order to make this series of houses more affordable, we've decided NOT to include a journal; a journal for your house can be purchased separately here.
